Co-working Amsterdam at Hashtag Workmode
A few months before the latest Euro trip, I found Hashtag Workmode on Instagram (per usual). It’s a badass, all-women’s co working space in the heart of Amsterdam city. Yes, you read that right- Girl bosses only. Instantly, I knew I had to see this place in person.
If you didn’t know, I’ve been living the digital nomad life for the last year and a half working as a Marketing Coordinator for Yelp. My job was technically remote because I was outside of the San Francisco HQ. Although I had to be in Baltimore for events, I could take my work anywhere I went. The cherry on top is that my boss was the coolest ever (she has her own show- check it out here) and let me work from the road whenever I needed to jet off. During my time there I visited Europe for two weeks, New Orleans and Texas multiple times. I was incredible happy living a less structured work life and had all the balance that a 22 year old could ask for.
A few months later, I’ve since graduated from University and had a warm welcome into the world of adulting. To say the least, I wasn’t ready for all that was about to come my way. My role with Yelp ended recently (layoffs suck) and although it was out of my control, I am trying to embrace the new 9 to 5 life that I said I would never fall into. I wake up hella early, make breakfast and drive 15 minutes to my office job.
The perks: I work at an amazing international company and I have my own office too. Cons: 9 to 5 life.
I’m incredibly thankful for this blog as its been my outlet just when I needed it. I also have a few freelance gigs and am looking to take on more social media clients over at You Me Travel Co.
Now that you’ve learnesdd a bit about me check out my time spent at #Workmode:
On my last full Monday in Amsterdam, I visited my first co-working space ever. I’ve always been attracted to the idea of communal work spaces like WeWork, but the fact that #Workmode was only for women was truly inspiring. I entered the building to meet my lovely dutch co workers for the day. I was given a tour by the office manager and was introduced to some of their team. After seeing all the cutest decor imaginable, I popped into a seat at the flex tables. Flex tables are for all the babes with laptops who need somewhere to get shit done, but don’t necessarily need a permanent desk.
All of the creative ladies working here were super nice and friendly. One lovely lady walked up to me and introduced herself in Dutch. After I stared blankly at here, we exchanged a laugh and tried again in English. She said that she just assumed I was Dutch, which reminded me of why I love Amsterdam and it’s diversity so much.
The amenities at Hashtag Workmode are clutch. There’s a fully stocked kitchen with free coffee and tea (tea, please!), refrigerator, meeting space, an outdoor terrace and two floors of workspace. It looks as if it were an old house converted into the gem it is today. I met the very sweet owner, Emile, she’s amazing- you can read her story here. Everything from the quirky decor to the comfy desk chairs makes this co working space ideal. I truly felt inspired while working here.

Being at #Workmode was relaxed, yet made me feel so empowered. There were everyone from social media managers to bloggers and everything in between working here. I can truly see how being productive here and building relationships could cultivate magic. I wish I had a reason (or a visa) to stay in Amsterdam for longer because I would most definitely call #Workmode my work home. Membership starts with a 3 month commitment. Hopefully, they will start to offer day passes (like I had) more regularly for traveling babes who want to be experience it for themselves.
