Visiting God's Own Junkyard in London
If you’re looking for a quirky art gallery to visit in London, look no further. God’s Own Junkyard is a free, totally Instagrammable haven of neon lights. I’ve been a few times and it’s still one of my favorite places to see in London. Tucked away and a bit off the beaten path in Walthamstow, the trek to get here is oh-so worth it.
WHAT IS IT
A neon lights art gallery full of funky sayings, quotes and images. There’s something cool or funny in every corner. There’s a small cafe with bites and a lovely plant-filled garden to enjoy.
HOW TO GET THERE
By train: Walthamstow Central (Victoria Line and London Overground), Wood Street (London Overground)
By bus: Unless you’re staying close by or in Walthamstow Central, you’ll likely be in for a long bus ride (not always a bad thing) or multiple buses needed to get there. Download the Citymapper app to find the best route.
WHY I LOVE IT
I love God’s Own Junkyard because it’s free, wacky and completely unlike anything else I’ve ever seen. London is a unique city and I love when people step outside of the usuals (i.e. Buckingham Palace) and really see this lovely city for what it is. I’ve been to this place a few times and the signs do change so if you love it - you can visit over & over again!
WHAT ELSE TO DO
When you’re done snapping pictures for the gram’, head just across the way to the handful of taprooms and food vendors located in the same complex. Here’s what’s available:
Grab a pint - https://www.therealalcompany.co.uk/
Wildcard Brewery - https://www.wildcardbrewery.co.uk/
Sip local Gin - http://www.mothersruin.net/
Food vendors vary but there’s usually a stand selling easy bites like hotdogs or such.
